Electronic device design: from idea to series production

Electronic device design: from idea to series production

We design electronic devices and then manufacture them ourselves. That changes everything: the schematic, the PCB and the firmware are built for specific assembly lines from day one, not for “some factory somewhere”. Come to us with an idea, with a specification, or with a prototype that needs preparing for series production.

Design of devices and modules

Full design support, not just drawing schematics

Electronic device design at Convel covers the whole chain: analysing business requirements, technical consulting, schematic and PCB design, embedded software, production documentation and the launch of the first run on our shop floor in Warsaw. You can hand us the whole project or only the stage your team is missing.

We aim for devices that are functional, reliable and cost-optimised, ready to develop and scale. When we design, we think about series production straight away, because we run it ourselves: we know how 0402 and 0201 components behave on our Yamaha machines, what comes through the Heller oven and the selective wave cleanly, and what comes back from AOI inspection. That knowledge goes into the design before the first board exists, which is why our designs rarely need a revision after the first run.

Scope of design work

Seven stages that take a design into production

Analysis of needs and business requirements
01 / 07

Analysis of needs and business requirements

We start with questions, not with a schematic: what the device has to do, in what conditions it will work, what it should cost to manufacture and in what batch sizes. We examine your requirements closely and agree the direction of the project together. The result is a specification that can be implemented technically and makes economic sense, before anyone orders the first component.

Review of technical documentation
02 / 07

Review of technical documentation

If you already have a prototype or documentation, we review it for series production (DFM): assembly technology, component package selection, part availability, testability, fit with the enclosure. We advise on component choices and design changes that improve manufacturing efficiency and lower the unit cost. This stage often decides whether a design will be cheap to manufacture or merely working.

Design consulting
03 / 07

Design consulting

We support projects at every stage, including those run by your own team. We propose changes that improve how the electronics work, make room for new functions or replace components with more available and better priced ones. When the component market shifts, we point to approved alternatives before a single missing part stops the run.

PCB design
04 / 07

PCB design

We design printed circuit boards from the electrical schematic through to multilayer constructions with radio sections, power supplies and interfaces. We keep the board consistent with the mechanical design and the enclosure, working with 3D teams. The board is designed for automated assembly from the start: fiducials, panelisation, test points, placement of SMD and THT parts. The result is production documentation (Gerber, BOM, pick-and-place) you can start a run with immediately.

Embedded software
05 / 07

Embedded software

We write firmware focused on stability, low power consumption and code quality, on the STM32, AVR, Nordic and ESP32 platforms. We handle Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and industrial interfaces, and design update mechanisms and test procedures. Hardware and software are built by one team, so decisions about the microcontroller, the power supply and the antenna are made together, not across three email threads with three companies.

Technical documentation
06 / 07

Technical documentation

The final stage of design work is solid documentation: schematics, board production files, a bill of materials with alternates, assembly instructions, programming and test procedures. It is documentation that lets the device be manufactured repeatably at our plant and, if need be, moved elsewhere. Source code and documentation belong to the customer on the terms agreed in the contract.

Production launch
07 / 07

Production launch

Every design is made with series production in mind, so launching it is part of the design work, not a separate order. The first batch is a pilot run: we verify the assembly process, the AOI inspection programme and the test procedure, make corrections and only then move to production. Knowing the design shortens the time to launch and gives stable assembly quality from the first run.

We will design and build a professional electronic device for you

  • You have an idea for a device but do not know how to get from concept to a finished design
  • Your prototypes need refining before they go into series production
  • You have a finished design from an external studio and want to know what it will cost to manufacture
  • You are looking for a partner who listens and communicates every stage of the project clearly

Leave the design and manufacturing of your electronics to us. Send us a specification, a prototype or documentation, and we will tell you what comes next and what it costs.
